After a successful acquisition in 2020, one of the oldest munitions factories in the world – Fábrica de Municiones de Granada, became part of the MSM group. The first reference of the FMG factory dates back to 1324, which means that it is celebrating incredible 700 years.

Unique anniversary
On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the first written reference of the factory, known today as FMG, a significant celebration was going to take place in Granada, Spain.
The rich cultural heritage and the passion for tradition that characterize Andalusia were linked to the history of the factory. The programme was in the style of Andalusian traditions, featuring the real Andalusian cuisine and performances by Spanish artists.

Historical records show that the first gunpowder produced in what is now known as Granada appeared during the reign of the Sultanate of Granada. It is said that Gunpowder was used in 1324 when Ismail I. of Granada from the Nasrid dynasty besieged the city of Huéscar. This is exactly where the history of FMG begins.

Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press in Europe and two years later the word`s first book, a two-volume Bible, was printed. At that time, gunpowder had been produced in Granada for over hundred years.

Columbus set sail on his journey on August 3, 1492 with the aim of finding a new route to Asia with three vessels: Niňa, Pinta and Santa María. The discovery of America is considered as the beginning of the European colonisation of the New World. Our factory also “remembers” this event.
